We celebrate veterans that are alive today. This is more appropriate for memorial Day ~USN Gulf War Veteran

We don't "celebrate" anything. This is a somber day for many, and there are those who brought it home and are still alive, so there's that. When we say "we have the watch," that means we are giving those a much-needed break. ~Israeli/Lebanon/Persian Gulf USN Veteran.
