It goes way back. How did divorce become normalized? Hollywood. "Elizabeth Taylor was married eight times to seven different men." She was beautiful, she was National Velvet, "a heartwarming story about dreams and determination".

America was "in love" with those celebrities due to the relentless publicity and glam. Their "love lives" were at first titalating and "scandalous" but ppl kept consuming the news; until . . . multiple divorces just weren't scandalous any more. They didn't have to scold us how to vote back then; their press was enough to dumb down morality.
