Most of these "drones" are flying under 1000 feet. Are some of these being misidentified? Absolutely!! More people are now looking up and seeing nav lights on planes and saying "that's a drone OMG!!" when it's just a UAL heading into EWR. Trying to logically figure out what's going on is the correct step. But the fact is the up tick is massive not just in NJ but worldwide.
Totally unrelated to NJ, last week I saw two passenger jets flying pretty close together at about 20-30k, the first jet had a triangle delta formation of ufos right behind it (small bright reflective objects.) The second plane also had a few trailing that weren't in a formation. By the time I got my phone out they were pretty far away, but could clearly see the planes and bright dots in some photos I took. This was a bright clear day up in the mountains, blue sky and watched them traverse the entire sky. These were definitely not drones. WA state near St. Helens.
