I used to think that too. I used to go for hikes every Sunday, figuring I was on God's earth, not in a parking lot and building that plowed down the earth and was a monstrosity. However, I need guidance. I can't do it on my own. I discovered I needed guidance for me and my kids, I can't guide them fully on my own. I started going to the church I loathed, found friends, and learned about Gods word. I can now speak more intelligently with my kids about God. It was worth it to me.
For some reason, "Christians" believe that they need to be in a church to be close to God. That is the furthest thing from the truth.
