U.S. Military alliances with nations that do not allow their citizen's the right to bear arms, and engage in free speech should be forbidden by US law.
We could perhaps allow for a couple exceptions on that for unusual circumstances, like in the case of Japan. But, generally speaking, such nations are more of a military liability, than assets for the USA.
