Held to a standard? When was the last time you heard of a problem with beef that was processed outside of a USDA facility? Ill wait...
Problems are always at USDA facilities. The volume is a big problem. They 1000% cater to the big 4. Nothing they do is for consumer protections. They hold the small producer down in every way possible.
Ya, in theory it sounds great. More freedom of course. But, who will regulate shady farmers that are not ethical? What is done to the animal and put into the animal affects us.
I think everyone needs to get to know the USDA and learn where and how they spend money. It sure isnt to benefit the consumer. Like other government agencies in this country, they've been hijacked.
This can be a double edged sword. Non ethical farmers can sell tainted meat. There needs to be checks and balances where farmers need to maintain standards to sell quality products. I think this needs to be accompanied by termination of all regulations that forces big corp to monopolize the meat market through acquisitions and price gauging or price manipulation. Prevent foreign people buying land and put in place checks that ensures that if farm land is bought, then farming must be conducted at an appropriate scale. But maybe this is a step in right direction.
Bring back butchers!
Yes.
I have no problem buying beef from local farmers and butchers with no USDA anything going on.
Farmers need to held to a standard no sick cows slaughtered and given to customers. We cannot assume that “farmer” is synonymous with ethical.
Right? Especially with the number of foreign owned farms.

Do you worry about the practices used on imported lean beef? I assure you... thats where your concern should be, not American beef.
Consumers will weed out the BS. Food reality has been a big awakening of its own the last 5 to 8 years. In the best of ways.
Would that make the beef less expensive? Since it’s not USDA approved.
Of course. I used to buy it off our neighbor when we were still eating meat.
USDA "Inspected"

I agree. I never trust the label. I’m sure most non USDA meat is top quality.

Theres no "maybe" to it. Otherwise, beef producers will continue to disappear. USDA serves a purpose other than that which it was created to do.
C'mon Florida. Do this!
