I was channel surfing and found this movie. Since I had no idea who Soyara was, I decided to watch it. The movie deals with a young woman who was born in Iran(Persia) to a Persian father and a German mother. The family becomes exiled over oil found on their tribal land. It’s a princess story line, which most may not find too exciting. What I did find very interesting was the geo-politics that the movie revealed, oil, Britain, mullah, Americans and all the intrigues. The movie is clear about the how little Britain was paying Iran for their oil, like 12% to 17%! The Shah was attempting to get the British to increase Iran’s percentage. There is even mention of how the Americans just made a deal with Saudi Arabia for 50%. Yet there were people in Iran who wanted to Nationalize the oil, solely for the country’s benefit! Britain, of course, would have none of this nationalization stuff. If you have family members who don’t believe the machinations of the Imperial British Empire, this movie may open their eyes. Soyara didn’t have a happy ending. As it turns out she was infertile and wanted a divorce as she would NOT accept a second wife. After the divorce, the Shah married again to get heirs. Then he got booted out of Iran, Americans too!
