1933 - Wisconsin State Capitol Collapses Madison "Capital Times" ran a picture on its front page showing the dome collapsing with the headlines, "Dome Topples Off Statehouse."

1941 - Rue Maurice Thorez Vichy Government in France arrested 13 people on the charge of participating in a "Communist April Fool day plot" to rename streets in Marseille after the exiled Communist leader, Maurice Thorez.

1941 - Speechmaker Fools Congress Robert Fleming Rich, a PA Republican Congressman, was known for making heated 1-minute debates every day about the national debt, always asking, Where are we going to get the money?"
