My grandfather worked during the summer, saved his money so he could go to college and live during the winter. I was able to pick up night courses and pay out of pocket for them. Now colleges charge what they want as student loans will pay whatever they want to charge. Student loans makes it too easy for them. They'd have to watch their budgets if the gov't wasn't paying.

So it'll be cheaper to get indoctrinated.....

I got a stem degree with ZERO loans and grants. I bartended full time and went to college at 2/3 of full time load- took me longer, BUT - ZERO loans equal zero obligation to pay back $$ and take a shit job that would kill my soul...bartended for 8mos after grad to wait for job I wanted and start my career MY WAY. Colleges should underwrite the loans = more skn in the game and less likely to charge 1 million for a shitty communications degree
