As posted above, schools take the majority of property taxes. Audit them all and pay off those neverending fraudulent bonds. But muh roads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you know the actual cost of roads and fixing potholes and paying that volunteer firefighter? It's like 10 bucks per person. Exempt households without children from funding schools. You want to have kids, you pay to "educate" them.
In NC, schools are mostly paid from state funds, which don't come from property taxes. I have looked at NC's state budget in the past, and most of it goes to salaries.
How would that work exactly? Would you have to prove childlessness every time you bought groceries to get a reduced sales tax rate? I already pay zero state income tax, because NC doesn't tax social security, and my wife's pension isn't taxed either.
