There is a debate about who these witnesses will be. I personally believe it has to be Enoch and John. Everyone who has been born in a physical body has died. Elijah died later as John the Baptist. That would leave only Enoch and John (if you believe he never died as i do).
In the spiritual interpretation of the book of Revelation the two witnesses are not physical human beings, they are living things inside the individual Christian soul.
The #TheRevelationShift series shows the Christian soul how to ascend out of Adamic readings of the book of Revelation into a Jesus Christ centered reading of the book of Revelation.
Their Physical body died, but not their Soul or Spirit! We are all Eternal beings and when we leave this world, we will be judged by CHRIST and receive either Heaven or Hell based on earthly life. We never actually die except physically!
The bible does not say their physical bodies died. That is why Elijah was able to come back as John The Baptist. He had not faced the first death. Until Christ died for us we were all bound to die both deaths (physical and then spiritual). Everyone born into this world must die the physical death. Elijah had not so he was sent to prepare the way for Christ and then he died. John is hinted at living until Christ returns and Enoch was taken without facing death just like Elijah originally was.
And as you know, Jesus was sinless so he should have never faced the first death but death came for him anyways. That is how the old law was broken through the covenant that death and satan broke and the new law/convenant exists, through the sacrifice of Jesus.
Even during the rapture only our spirits will be called up. Our physical bodies still die.
Read the Parable of the rich man and the beggar! Saints and Righteous were already in Paradise and sinners who had no regard for his fellow man were already in Hell. This was before CHRIST died for Our Sins. When CHRIST died HE freed the Righteous and Saints in Paradise, and they went to Heaven, but the people in Hell were still there. So, physical death was happening and Judgment was already happening prior to CHRIST's death and resurrection. Luke 16:19-31. also, The thief on the right hand of Jesus, traditionally named St. Dismas, is known as the "penitent" or "good thief". According to the Gospel of Luke, he rebuked the other crucified criminal for mocking Jesus, acknowledged his own sins, and asked Jesus to remember him. Jesus promised him, "Today you will be with me in Paradise".
Luke 23:39-43
where does it say Elijah came back as John the Baptist? Like in reincarnation or something? I am fairly literate of the Bible, but never heard this doctrine before. Is there a particular 'christian' denomination that teaches this?
Mathew 11:11-14. Elijah came to prepare the way for Christ. That is the reason he recognized Jesus in the womb while he was also in the womb. And the reason he was able to is because he had not died the physical death yet. He was allowed to come back and get ready for Christ and die.
I don't think that is the traditional christian interpretation of that scripture. Most denominations reject that. John fulfilled the prophetic role of Elijah (Malachi 4:5-6) by coming “in the spirit and power of Elijah” (Luke 1:17).
I think your interpretation falls in with the Unity school of christianity or theosophy type religion, New age thought or other non main christian groups.
John the Baptist was not the prophet Elijah reincarnated. However, Jesus and the biblical authors taught that John spiritually fulfilled the prophecies of Elijah's return by preparing the way for the Messiah.
Jesus told his disciples that if they were willing to accept it, John was the "Elijah who was to come". He fulfilled the Old Testament prophecy (found in Malachi 4:5-6) by operating in the "spirit and power of Elijah," sharing a similar prophetic boldness, lifestyle, and mission. Not actually Elija reincarnated

Nope. Try again.

Thanks for getting it and explaining it succinctly.
Thanks for the explanation. I believe that is the traditional belief.
