For some political context, over the last several years Australia has had a revolving door of Prime Ministers, the timing of which lends credence to this absolute betrayal not only of American interests but our own.
In 2015 our Liberal (Right) PM Tony Abbott was undermined by Australia's version of Mitt Romney, Malcolm Turnbull who took his place as PM. I can't see Abbott as responsible for this betrayal but it certainly fits for Turnbull.
As for our current PM, Scott Morrison, although he has been part of the government the whole time, his strong performance when he was Minister for Immigration and Border Protection gives me some confidence that he is not involved in this shit.
As a Canadian, I can only imagine how frustrating this all seems. It's almost as if our systems of government were designed from the ground up to prevent strong majorities from ruling. Damnit, our System doesn't factor in a decisive voter mandate like the US system does, and, looking back through history, you see how we've paid such a heavy price for it.
