Shutting down the Internet would be a technical challenge, even if it were limited to the USA. After all, the entire purpose of the original ARPNET was that it had many nodes and alternative routes. Taking out most of the infrastructure worldwide would be a tall order. But I'll bear it in mind as a possibility.
I don't own a fucking TV, nor a smartphone, so I guess I'll have to rely on neighbours to keep me informed.
