They have discovered that gaslighting—looking you right in the eye and repeating a lie, over and over, or uttering obviously glaring hypocrisy as in the OP, until you believe you are the one going insane—is easier than the subterfuge they were trying to use before. The catch is they have to absolutely stick to the message like glue and never commit suicide or relent whatsoever, as if it were true...even as they're being duckwalked to prison in cuffs.

Making you believe the hideous inhuman lie is the goal. Once they can make you believe whatever they program in, they've got you enslaved.

Hence the main thrust, right through the final sentence, of 1984.
