Heliocentric model of the universe (Earth revolves around the sun) was first widely propagated by the Jesuits after the Bible began to be distributed to the masses in the 15th/16th century. However, after the invention of the printing press in mid 1400s, the sheer number of freshly printed bibles made suppression impossible, and the Catholic church was not able stop their distribution so they changed tactics. They launched a campaign to malign and discredit the newly distributed bibles as heretical and unreliable, as evidenced by these contraband translations contradicting the now newly discovered nature of the universe, the heliocentric model. The Jesuits were deployed to universities worldwide with this new heliocentric model with the added message/tenet that only trained priests and church officials were capable of correctly interpreting the Bible. Discrediting "unofficial" bibles was their attempt to keep catholic believers in the dark and maintain power and control.
