There’s a similar force at play in mainstream news, where things gravitate towards the fearful and the salacious because they’re more engaging. But there’s some degree of truthfulness expected.

In the q community there’s no standard of truth, so you just get nonsense that resonates emotionally basically. It has nothing to do with veracity. They believe it because it feels right, because the community picks out the ones that feel rightest.
