Allow me to chime in and say that many of the teachings of Jesus were and still are superior, i.e. (more) morally accurate, i.e. more true, i.e. more Godly.
I personally believe everything that exists has a reason, and when asking what is the reason of existence (which exists) - the answer is something which needs naming. The commonly accepted term/name for this entity is God. He is by definition the reason for existence's existing in the way that it does.
The scriptures attept to shed light on his character using language, and the Gospel is closer to moral truth, and a superior compass for human action when compared to other religious systems. The scientific alternative has the problem of not having an accepted core which renders it flakey whereas the "blind" faith renders religions more robust. Christianity being the best among them.
