Hmm... I skipped school a lot as a kid. I never even got a truancy charge. Maybe keep them home today. Schools are usually lenient enough to give kids a few days off for things like funerals and stuff.
EDIT: Though now that I think about it, someone mentioned shock and awe. Could be a memorable and valuable experience if they're old enough to remember.
