They will. We don't have to worry about that. I've NEVER seen whole units turn their backs on a sitting dignitary before. Or a military official for that matter.

Case in point:

  1. USS NIMITZ Change of Command Ceremony. Command changed hands from then Capt Harms to then Capt Richardson.

Harms was a cock sucker. He was only interested in his own boons, not the safety of the crew. We had a "mishap" where a landing arrest wire snapped into multiple pieces and killed a Chief (personal friend of mine), wrecked a S-3B Viking (sub hunter) and injured two others. One was put out the Navy from the injuries. The arrest wire was overdue it's inspection because Harms wanted to fly on a scheduled no fly day just so we (read "he") could win an award for the most flight ops hrs in a 6 mth deployment.

So, when it came time to see his ass off and bring in a new C.O., word spread around the crw that we were gonna turn out backs on him as he walked up onstage.

Well, X.O. and the CMC caught wind of it, and needless to say, they BOTH were pissed. They both personally met with each Dept/Div on the ship and threatened the whole crew with mutiny charges and Courts Martial if we even attempted such a thing.

So, we acquiesced and gave that dick the send off he didn't deserve. Begrudgingly, but we did it.

Once Harms was gone, Capt Richardson thanked us for our professionalism and reminded us that, while we don't have to respect the man, we have to respect the position of authority.

Incidentally, I still have nightmares from that day. Was forced to pick up my friend's body and clean the flight deck off with his brain matter all over me. Harms stole one of the BEST Chief Petty Officers I've ever known. Stole him from us, his wife and kids, and the world. All for a fucking medal he received the day he left Nimitz. Oh, and he was promoted (that day) to RAdm (Lower Half), 1 Star, and eventually went on to become the Chief of Naval Air Training.

Anyway, if the Navy leadership onboard Nimitz threatened a whole ship's company with mutiny and Court Martial, some 4,000 Sailors, don't you think DOD would have with the troops in D.C.?

I do.

Because that's what they do if they hear about any attempt at slighting sitting dignitaries in this manner. It's the ULTIMATE "F You" that a military can give, next to glassing a city.

So, for this to have happened tells me that it was sanctioned.

Which gives me a little more hope that our military is on top of things.

Just my 2¢.
