I don't know Chris or John and didn't even know about this story, but I looked into this for 5 minutes. Miles means 'solider/soldier of god', so they probably picked that to show that they are soldiers of satan and his demons/gods/goddesses.

Jack means 'god is gracious' and Luna is an obvious nod to the triple goddess. Connect the 3 meanings together and think about my musings below, then you'll have a decent idea of what likely happened. First off those kids were probably sacrificed, most don't like them that young so they probably weren't raped beforehand - but it is LA so you never know ^^.
