I once spent some time in a county jail. Long story. This was in the 90s. Anyway we played cards with this guy that seemed nice enough. One day he comes over and sits down. He says to us I think I gotta go. We're confused. We're in a cell block. Its pretty much the definition of you aren't going anywhere. He says its been fun guys thanks for the card games blah blah just 3-4 sentences. He gets up and walks over to the guard. Five minutes later the full riot gear goon squad comes in but there is no alarm or anything. No one told us to go to our rooms. Its the weirdest thing we'd seen. The guy I'm talking about was in a little conference room to the side they use for disciplinary panels and other internal stuff. We're still playing cards, but confused as hell by what's going on.

The goon squad quickly escorts him out of the cell block and they're gone. Not a minute later a guy comes over from the TV area and sits down to watch our game. We're like WTF was that about. Turned out the guy was a pedo who diddled his G/Fs like 10 year old daughter. He was locked up for something else, burglary I think, but just the day before he went to court for the pedo thing and plead out.

Well once the plea deal was done the local news media splattered his picture all over the news because now he's been convicted and they can't be sued etc. So about 20 guys were in the back side of the cell block debating on whether they should drag him out into the ball court area which is mostly concrete and beat him half to death, or maybe fully to death.

So he told the guards and they pulled him out "for his own safety".

90% of the tropes about jail are bullshit. I never saw anyone get raped. Fights happened but it was mostly bullshit. No one made shanks etc. Never saw anyone get stabbed blah blah.

The one thing that was true is tons of people had some serious hate for pedos. Bullshit like statutory rape of a 17 year old no one gave a shit about(unless it was real rape), but diddling 10 years old etc... pre-teens... man they would get worked up fast. And not just the bullshit having pictures, people would harass you over that, but actually touching a real kid... you were a dead man walking if people found out.
