Just my opinion, I think we don’t need meat at every meal, maybe once a day is adequate. Dairy is kind of BS as a good group. Way too much fat and cholesterol to justify the calcium and protein. The natural source of calcium would be nuts, beans, dark leafy greens, which rarely get consumed in adequate amounts. Greens should replace dairy as a food group. They provide tremendous nutrients.
As a humorous note, where do cows get their calcium? Grass... ha. Although on industrial farms they mostly just get hay and corn plus supplements.
A good point vegans make about dairy- what other animal drinks another animals milk? Or continues to drink milk after infancy? What upsets me is that human infants have been divorced from drinking human milk for the past almost 100 years. This is terrible for their tiny bodies and sets them up for a lifetime of disadvantage. They say breastfed babies have higher iqs- but think of it another way- they have NORMAL iqs because human milk is supposed to be the default nutrition. That means formula consuming babies have lower iqs. That’s just cold logic. I feel sad for women forced into this position by the system. The role of mother has been denigrated and made nearly obsolete. :(
Anyway... there’s some truth to what vegans say but I think moderation is almost always the best.
Edit- I’m speaking from an Asian perspective btw. We eat tons of greens and veggies at most meals and not so heavy on the meat. Much smaller emphasis on dairy and not so big on processed food. Vegetarianism is much more mainstream here, it’s been a major part of our culture for millennia. Just sharing my second opinion. ^_^
