But...

If you don't, the "penalty" is 0.5% a month plus interest. (BTW late "filing" penalty is 5% per month). I know plenty of people who don't pay until October because their investments are paying way more money than the "late paying" penalty costs them. Also note the IRS interest rate isn't that high.
