No the common working people are always sheep. The very concept of organized civilization with law and order weeds out people who don't submit to authority at least to some degree.

This is why every revolution in history was lead by somebody from the elite or scholarly classes.

The Right was neutered because people fell for the foolish idea that people would "rise up." And so they didn't back their own conservative leaders while the Left goose-stepped around like the fascists the yare, and beat and purged their own into absolute conformity until they achieved unquestioned unity as a movement and then presented a united front that shattered the independence-loving Right politically in every possible arena except actual physical-war. And there they are smart enough not to engage until they have utterly overwhelming advantage.
