There are studies that show that masks can reduce water droplets from getting through. There are several problems with those studies.

  1. There is zero (ZERO) actual science that shows that viruses are transported on water droplets through the air. There are an awful lot of media reports that say that, but zero actual science (follow the science!).
  2. There is no indication that if it were true that aerosolized droplets carry the virus, that the size of those droplets are of the size the studies on masks look at. In fact all of the studies I have looked at (quite a few) only look at droplets much larger than one would expect to travel sufficient distance, and much, much larger than the actual virus.
  3. This is the only study I have seen (and likely the only one in existence) that has done actual science on actual people using different types of masks and measuring viral transmission. This study suggests you are more likely to get sick if you wear a cloth mask than no mask. A surgical mask only reduces it by about 50%.
  4. This article explains why you would be more likely to get sick with a cloth mask than no mask. A reused mask, or any mask worn for a long time harbors bacteria.
  5. This article (written by Fauci no less in 2008) explains how in past pandemics most people actually died from Pneumonia. This goes back the the first pandemic in 1918 when wearing cloth masks became fashionable (see point 4).

At this point I am mostly convinced we wear masks because it increases the death count. Indeed, the CDC data suggests that the most likely cause of death in this "pandemic" is Pneumonia. The disease that comes from bacteria that breeds in non-sterilized masks.

Anyone who wants to promote mask wearing is welcome to follow the science I am presenting here.
