I made the case that where ever mandates were made vs. places they were not, the results were all similar (see Florida vs. California), except, the "free" places actually had a resemblance of normal life. If lockdowns and such really worked, you wouldn't see such similar results, California would have far lower case and mortality rates.

Their argument against this was incredible. "All places did it badly, for different reasons, and that's why the results are so similar. It's not that mandates don't work, it's that people are selfish and don't follow them".

It sounded a lot like: "communism is great, everyone else who tried it just did it wrong. If you put us in charge, we'll get it right!".

I guess this shouldn't be surprising, he's also of the belief that if something is against human nature and the incentive structures of the economy, this can all be fixed with heavy regulation. He's a big government advocate.
