I picked up books on boxing and a (possibly dated) book of the US Department of Army hand-to hand combat. One of the stances in boxing is actually very similar to the main stance in the Army Training. The Peekaboo guard. I'm working on melding the styles. I also focused on martial arts that are native to my family's home lands. The places we were from before we came here. Fencing (Which is Scottish) and Russian Sambo. We go back to when it was actually Bohemia. Like back when it was the crown lands and not Czechoslovakia but Sambo is the Slavic martial art.
