I watch for 'the path of least resistance'.

When you give someone an idea, if it hits their brain and processes there will be an inevitable delay before considered response (unless they already are aware).

If your idea processes instantly, you are talking to an NPC. It either: goes clean through the ears and out the other side (the NPC remains undisturbed) or it rebounds back through the same ear using brainwash / dissonance conditioning (the NPC remains undisturbed).
