I grew up in a normal nuclear family. But we hardly see each other even though we live relatively close to each other. I talk to my sister and brother on the phone, about once a year. So each of us is doing our own thing. My father passed and my mom lives in senior housing. Of all of them, I'm close to my mother. But I prefer not to be around my siblings mostly because of who they married. I am protecting myself by not seeing them.

I used to watch "My Three Sons" and wonder why my father couldn't be like that father. My dad was always mad. Then going through life, I realized NOBODY had that perfect family. Some people get together with family, even though they don't want to. Life is too short for that.
