I recently read an article (link below) that stated that Blackwater and Vanguard are snapping up entire neighborhoods of middle class homes all across the country and paying well over asking price to outbid the actual middle class.  The idea seems to be to have us all be renters and give up land and property ownership...dependent on them in so many ways.
