Let me preface this by saying that Time is of the Essence, and I don't have enough of it to flush this dig out as much as I'd like. I’m so rushed, I’ll try to make this acceptably coherent. Apologies in advance.
I will read (but might not reply) to any follow up digs with great interest.
Somehow I stumbled upon the edge of the Crispin Glover rabbit hole. I don't remember how, probably by following one of the innumerable crumbs Twin Peaks radiates like a Black Hole Sun (another enormous Rabbit Hole). Actually, I just remembered. It was following the Michael Jackson rabbit hole. Turns out Crispin “covered” MJ’s song “Ben” and turned it into something strange. He accompanied it with a music video that he directed.
Crispin Glover - Ben . Symbolism...
Then I discovered Mr. Glover wrote an essay, more of a poem really, about an experimental film he’d directed entitled “What Is It?” (2005). I have not YET seen the film. You bet I will. Regardless, the essay is, appropriately called “What Is It? (An essay concerning the subtext of the film by the same title) by Crispin Hellion Glover”.
Maybe at one point this essay was easier to find on the internet and more people were discussing it. Maybe it’s never been particularly easy to find, as it’s an oddity by an odd man who just happens to Hollywood Star (though, he’s certainly went about his career choices in a peculiar way… Very non-traditional. Hrm…).
Regardless, you can read the full thing at pastebin.
But wait, no you can’t. Pastebin won’t let me publish it there. (Hrm…). “Pastebin’s SMART filters have detected potentially offensive or questionable content in your paste. Crispin Glover – What Is It? Essay
Excerpts to get you going:
“Do you believe Steven Spielberg is an ideal guide and influence for our culture? Do Steven Spielberg’s films question our culture? What do Steven Spielberg’s films question? Does Steven Spielberg focus much of his fantasy life on young people? Did he portray children wallowing in sewers filled with fecal matter in Schindler’s List? Did he use children to finger paint an adult in Hook? Does he collect the illustrations of Norman Rockwell, such as the one showing a young boy in his underwear examined by a doctor? Are the inclinations of Steven Spielberg above suspicion by the media-fed culture? Was Steven Spielberg very friendly with Michael Jackson? Wasn’t Michael Jackson supposed to play Peter Pan in Steven Spielberg’s version of the story? Now that Michael Jackson is no longer held in favor by the mass media, does Spielberg associate with him? Do Michael Jackson and Steven Spielberg share similar opinions about the sexuality of young boys?”
This is already getting too long. Trust me, the digging is there. Poor Heather O’Rourke.
Here is an archive link to The Original Thread where I found this essay
Here’s some bonus material before I go:
Crispin Glover’s music video for Original Song: Clowny Clown Clown … will be their downfall.
Pertinent self promotion (really, that’s not why I made this thread, but it’s related) Crispin Glover’s – Ben – time siren’s songmix
These rabbit holes could fill volumes. NCSWIC / WWG1WGA
EDIT / REQUEST : So apparently privatebin links expire after 24 hours. Can anyone direct me to a free-speech oriented text dump alternative? TIA.
2nd EDIT: Didn't have time to add these to the OP - there's so much more. Have a few more links.
