I would argue that the divide is more between the people who outright reject as a lie any perspective derived from the mainstream news, and people who do not.

It’s true that I hold positions that align with the “mainstream”, but it does not logically follow that this can only occur BECAUSE the mainstream news carries it. That’s a correlation/causation fallacy.

If the news reports that the sky is blue, and I also believe the sky is blue, you are far more likely to be suspicious of the sky color than I am.

So while I certainly can’t speak for all nonbelievers, I can say for myself that you guys are paying FAR more attention to what the mainstream news is saying than I do. I don’t even have cable.
