My father was Army Intellegence, stationed in DC during the Cold War era, went on to college, became an educator, continued his education further, and eventually became a business man and entrepreneur. One day when I was really young he went missing. After several years he was declared legally dead. Not to go into alot of detail, but 20+ years after his disappearance he reappears. In short order declared legally "alive", and there were no repercussions, consequences, nill, nothing. Continues to go to the VA for checkups, Social Security benefits in place etc. etc. To add to this story during the time after he was declared dead, I signed up and joined the Marines, or so I thought. Trained with local recruiters for months, did all the paperwork, the day finally came that I was transported to the regional station to be processed etc. before being transported to basic. Went through the swearing in process, started to board the bus, and one of the processing Marines pulled me to the side and said sorry you cannot go. I asked why, he stated he was following orders, but only a higher official such as the President or Congressional member can make such a call. So in one day, within one hour I was enlisted and honorably discharged. With all this being stated, strange things can happen and do happen. In my experiences I have realised that alot of things are possible, including faked deaths.
