I can understand how a person who has never traveled might believe this...

EDIT: Not saying NASA doesn't lie - they do it all the time. But in over a century of human flight, no one has found the "edge" of the planet. Information, and airplanes, are too available at this point for me to believe such a cover-up is sustainable.
