The protest ended very quickly as VicPol riot squad and police swarmed upon the park. There weren't very many protesters at all, given how short notice the protest location was announced (less than 1 hour) and how long it takes to get to Northcote from the CBD (20 minutes). I'd say there were only about a hundred at the location, and they all scattered once VicPol arrived. Some including Joel were arrested.
It was a flop, but it had the unintended side effect of having a militarised police force turn up at a suburban shopping centre, making the police state that much more visible to local residents.
