I do 100% believe that forced silence was much worse then than now. But the burden of truth and patriotism is the same. However, the ability (or more accurately, effort to) silence someone is much easier today than it was back then (IMO). I don’t think revolutionary colonialists knew who was winning either, but they knew why it was worth believing in the efforts to fight….I take comfort in that historically, and today!
