There could be letters missing (den - 'they've hid(den)') unless 'they've hid' is commonly used, and there is a misspelling which results in a double entendre ('in mass' should be 'en masse') and could mean people waking up together and/or waking up in mass (in front of God). Was the latter picked up by researchers?
