My first fork job in Oregon I got paid $17/hr to load LTL freight and of course it's a pretty physical job because that company didn't give A FUCK about damages.
So you'll be rewrapping a shit ton of freight the dockworker at the prior terminal just fucking shoved in to make weight. Actually the supervisor probably told him to do it and mark it damaged on purpose so nobody gets in trouble.
And if you're not re-wrapping it, it's because YOU'RE the one shoving in shit that don't make sense because you've been working 12 hours and they won't let you leave until you do one more trailer and you started Monday at 4am and now it's Friday and they've moved you around the clock through the week to start at 6pm and you're functional at all.
Have a CDL? Okay. You'll get paid $25 and but about half your hours are the same shit not actual driving.
Fed all kinds of propaganda about how great the company is, talks from old-timers, threats to sue you for training fees if you quit early...
I did the math and quit when I figured out it would only take about 3 months longer than I was required to work for that company to pay off any incurred debt. Easy decision to basically make the same pay for 3 months longer than I would ANYWAY to be free and better off right away.
If you're working for a company like this QUIT.
It make ZERO fucking sense for them to operate things this way. I mean the money they must lose in turn-over ALONE....
Anyway total rant.
If you're working for $25 just driving forks, no CDL, and all you have to do is carry a propane tank every once in a while...and the culture is half decent...YOU HAVE A GOOD JOB!!!
