do your research and meet your local farmers/fishmongers. check out your farmers' markets and fish markets. get your meat/poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, produce, and whatever other foods you need from them, farm-fresh or freshly caught:
- truly pastured, free-range meats/poultry/dairy/eggs where you can see how the animals are raised,
- fish where you can see/ask how/where they're caught and handled
- produce that's non-GMO, free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticide/fungicide/herbicides
if there's a farm you really like, CSA with them. you get cleaner, fresher food for a good price. or (learn to) grow your own food, or hunt. i recently started doing this and once you taste real food, you won't want to go back to big supermarket chains
