It appears that this may have been a trap for PVeritas. O'Keefe has publicly stated that they were offered the diary through an intermediary that represented it had been legally obtained, and that PV, unable to verify the authenticity or legal origin after inspection, decided not to publish anything from the diary at all. Further, he stated that they tried to return the document to the source that supplied it [Edit: he days they tried to return it to an attorney who represented Ashley Biden, not the diary's provider], but that they were unable to do so, and so they turned it over to authorities. In the statement I read, he did not state which authority it was given to. Now a whistleblower is pointing the finger at PV as having leaked the document, which is now categorized as stolen.
