Nothing the dispatcher told Zimmerman cycled his actions between legal and illegal, justified/not justified.
Zimmerman acted in self-defense vs. a 180lb, 6ft+ adult male who was on top of him and attacking him.
We don't live in an age, especially in stand your ground states, where physical altercations (ie. assault) can be thought of or should be thought of as normal seemingly safe interactions. Zimmerman, your mother and the 350lb. biker do not have to take a beat down or withstand physical assault without using self-defense/stand your ground.
"Back in the day we used to handle our issues with our fists..." - we're not back in the day, but people don't want to hear that.
