“Citizens” were beholden to the government of the “cities” in which they lived. Sovereign means reigned (it’s in the word) by the highest order. A sovereign citizen is one who is reigned by the highest order of a city, This morphed into city-state, then nation-state or nation. If you are a “sovereign citizen” you are by definition beholden to the rule of the state/nation. I hope this helps. Have a wonderful evening.

“Citizens” were beholden to the government of the “cities” in which they lived. “Sovereign citizenry” is an oxymoronic term since “citizens” can’t be sovereign individuals if they are beholden to the rules and mandates of others.

“Citizens” were beholden to the government of the “cities” in which they lived. This concept morphed into the “citizens of states”, then “nation states” and finally “nations”. “Sovereign citizenry” is an oxymoronic term since “citizens” can’t be sovereign if they are beholden to the rule of ‘authority’.
