A "deterrent" and "can't really help us" are not the same thing.
There is a bigger picture.
Obviously us having guns makes any DS plans more difficult, but this isn't about the DS plans, this is about the GA. This is about us seeing their plans en masse before they reach fruition.
If it comes to civil war, i.e. if there are not enough awake when the shooting starts, that is a victory condition for the DS. It may not be the victory condition they want (not optimal) but it is the end of life as we know it (and not the GA golden age variety). We can't win a true civil war. It's not possible. (See the last one, we lost that one too. Big time.)
The GA is about showing the Truth. Massive amounts of bullets won't do that. They will do the opposite. They will reinforce the beliefs of the other side, the DS grip will be tighter, they will get their depopulation, and they will own the rest of the world.
No matter how you look at it, if the bullets start flying, we lose and they win.
