My experience with being a mason, and the reason I joined was to engage in their philanthropic endeavors. That's pretty much all that happens at the local level, and for 95% of all masons who never go further than 3rd degree.
1st degree = entered initiate
2nd degree = journeyman
3rd degree= master mason
4-33 = I dont know - probably simple to find on a web search
There is a simple saying; ask one to be one. iow masons are not supposed to recruit. Masons should acknowledge their affiliation, and wait for non-masons make the first move, exactly like what has happened here. I would entertain your questions further, but this is CERTAINLY not the right forum for all that!!
Find a mason (you probably know one) and start asking questions, I promise that they will quite enjoy answering them... well, most of them, yes there are a few secrets, but 1-3rd know very very few of them.
Anyway, as far as I can tell... everything has been disclosed all over the net.
