The Old Testament is a record. It tells of the origins of humanity and the faith, the fall of the angels, the sundering of the garden, the bloodline of Adam up to Jesus Christ, and the work the men of that bloodline did to return God's people back to the light every time they went astray by the works of the darkness in this world.
There are two gods in the Old Testament and part of Jesus's arrival was to clearly delineate that for not just the Jewish world, who were already terribly deceived by the Pharisee sect in this regard, but the entirety of the world as well.
There is the Father that sent the Son to free humanity, and then there is the envious god of wrath.
Matthew 7:20
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
