Funnily enough, my parents would try to prevent me from interacting with any other race - be it whites or other Asians. The old school types you speak of, my parents were not them.

Plus, you're right I'm 24 so I've grown up in this time period and can't relate to the golden times that older generations grew up in.

Also my father has never had a real job - he thinks he's too good to work and he legit brags about being smarter than people. It's not always a black and white story where the parents are good and the kid is a piece of shit - there are plenty of parents who are bad role models.
