Not everyone's into wood-working, so they probably didn't notice this as well, but the wood they used is pretty freaking lousy.

The wide grain is just asking to split. On the front one you can see on the right where it already is trying to open up in the middle, at the base.

Speaking of the front one's base, the damn thing isn't even square at the bottom. It's warped!

You have a pitch where that pinch in the right-middle of the base has a V shadow in the grain. That means the V in the grain is actually causing the warp. Any woodworker worth his salt making something like this wouldn't have used that chonk of wood.

Not to mention all the dings and pits in the chamfer. This thing must have been bouncing around in a pile of other projects for a while.

That is unless the frame for the flags are 30+ years old. Then the warping is expected. Still though, I wouldn't have chosen that stock piece of wood for a Presidential Flag Case.
