I am living in Germany and after the war the allies had a strong hand in forming our Germany, but they were also wise and shaped our Grundgesetz according to your constitution (but not totally). Therefore we are also a Federal Republic and not a Democracy.

But there are strong forces to take away the federal aspect and also stating daily that Germany is a Democracy - which is false. I did not knew it myself, only some months ago.

In a Republic the basis is THE RULE OF LAW! In a Democracy THE RULE OF THE the majority = the MOB. Which is totally open for propaganda, indoctrination and lies. As we learned since 2020 via the hard way!
