This is because the Word of God is a living Word - it is as relevant today, in its entirety, as it was when it was written because the Author is out of time, and sees and knows all things. That is how we can have assurance, as you said, that the battle was won before the enemy even picked up his sword. Just like the demons who stirred up an angry sea to try to destroy Jesus and His disciples in Mark 5, we hear them screaming now, trying to drown out the prayers of God’s people. He hears us and tells us not to fear. In His time we will hear Him speak “Peace” and all will be well.
