I walked out of a doctor’s appointment at the reception desk when the doctor came out and said, “it is a Federal requirement for medical facilities and airlines.” I said , “No. I will not comply. I will be back when mask mandates are dropped, but of course I will never return there.” I was the first appointment, no one else in the waiting room. It was obvious they had never been challenged before, because the registrant didn’t know what to do. Yesterday my husband had a eye appointment. This was his 2nd challenge of not wearing a mask there-first time they had him wait in the car and put eye drops in there and brought him in when the doctor arrived. This time he told them he would not wait in the car and put them through coming out in the cold and ice storm weather to do the same. He told them he would be looking for a new doctor. They promptly placed him in an exam room. When the eye doctor arrived, he wore no mask and told my husband he hasn’t been for 2 weeks, only for eye injections! How hypocritical is that by the office staff? This is a retinal specialist so not easy to find a replacement. He told my husband not to worry about the mask. He rents the space from another eye doctor, but apparently that doctor requires masks due to government mandates. Bottom line, persistence and economic withdrawl won out. More people must take a stand and show medical authorities and the government that days of complying are over. Most of the auxiliary staff are in fear of the government, their bosses, job loss. What they don’t see is the bigger picture: give an inch and your government and boss will take a mile. I quit my job 2 months before retirement due to needing to divulge my Covid status to my employer for their use in any way needed to fit their “business model”. I took that to mean with government, health insurance companies and maybe a data base to blackball one for future jobs, social scoring, etc. When the flu vaccine was mandated or a religious exemption/health exemption, I said “no.” Add to that trying to silence me in trying to inform a relatively new mother that the Covid shot was EUA and impact on her infant was unknown. I had had it with the entire medical industry.
